The Higher Education Training and Development Unit which was part of the University Teaching and Learning Portfolio has been reconfigured and effective January 1, 2018, its staff has been integrated in the School of Education in the Cluster of Education and Development Studies.

Application Process: 

 Every effort is made to accommodate the needs of participants who are in full time employment in the scheduling of contact sessions.

The performance of participants is assessed through various means, including portfolios, discussion papers, projects and reflective papers which describe and comment on the implementation of new educational practices, within a theoretical frame. There are no formal examinations.

What you need to do to register for the programmes:

Fill in an application form to either register for a programme - or if you wish to register formally for an individual module  (indicate NDP[non degree purposes] if you are only doing a single module and not the whole programme & the module you wish to enrol in) - forms available from Ms S Jeenarain Jeenarains@ukzn.ac.za  or 031 260 3257031 260 3257

   Include in the application certified copies of:

  • Matric certificate/exemption/National certificate
  • Last degree certificate
  • ID document
  • application fee

 If you have a foreign qualification or are a foreign student please ensure that you get an equivalence certificate from SAQA  (form available on the SAQA website).  Send a copy this to Sheryl Jeenarain and attach a copy to your application form. If you are a foreign student don't forget to sort out your study permits each year and well in time.

On receipt of your acceptance letter:

  • as a member of staff at UKZN - fill in a remission of fees application online, send to Human Resources, receive confirmation, check with student fees. Please remember to renew your remission each year
  • as a member of staff from other institutions South Africa you need to organize remission of fees from your institution or payment for other sources before registration. Generally, where degrees are not on offer in our own institution (eg: Masters in Higher Education as opposed to Education) you can get remission of fees to study at another institution. Send a copy to the administrator, take you letter with your staff card from your institution to UKZN Human Resources, then take the letters to student fees. Please remember to renew your remission each year and take to Human Resources in UKZN.

Be sure to fill in your registration form indicating which courses you wish to take in each semester.
