Governance, Leadership and Institutional Development in Higher Education

The Higher Education Training and Development Unit which was part of the University Teaching and Learning Portfolio has been reconfigured and effective January 1, 2018, its staff has been integrated in the School of Education in the Cluster of Education and Development Studies.

The purpose of this module is to enable higher education practitioners to understand and apply principles of ethical and responsible governance, and organisational and leadership theories and models to their practice in higher education. In addition, participants will learn the skills and competencies necessary to manage programmes and services that respond to student needs. This will include the assessment and evaluation for quality.

The module will cover aspects such as:

Governance and leadership in higher education

  • Higher education institutional development, systems and models
  • Global and local challenges facing higher education institutions
  • Ethics, values and change in higher education
  • Multiculturalism, pluralism, diversity, inclusion and integration in higher education
  • Professional staff development and supervision in higher education
  • Researching leadership and organisational development in higher education
