Higher Education Context and Policy

The Higher Education Training and Development Unit which was part of the University Teaching and Learning Portfolio has been reconfigured and effective January 1, 2018, its staff has been integrated in the School of Education in the Cluster of Education and Development Studies.

The module is a CORE 16 credit module in the programme which explores the global and local contexts in which Higher Education is located. The structure, functioning, funding and focus areas of the Higher Education sector are given particular attention, together with the social and policy imperatives driving the sector in South Africa.

In this module we covers aspects such as:

Global and local contexts in which Higher Education is located
Functions of Higher Education
Policies governing the sector and institution, including funding of the sector
Research and literature related to Higher Education
Higher Education institutional structures
Change in Higher Education institutions
