The Higher Education Training and Development Unit which was part of the University Teaching and Learning Portfolio has been reconfigured and effective January 1, 2018, its staff has been integrated in the School of Education in the Cluster of Education and Development Studies.

This is a 16 credit CORE module which aims to introduce participants to various research approaches and methods in Higher Education. Furthermore, it offers the opportunity to undertake research into an aspect of their own practice with a view to improved teaching and learning.

The module content includes an overview of research paradigms, approaches and methods commonly employed in Higher Education. Critical reviews of research in Higher Education, and in particular an exploration of Higher Education research related to the African context and experience will be undertaken, Knowledge and skills in action research are highlighted as action research offers participants a particularly appropriate way of examining their own practices.
